April 2008 News

Next Meeting – The next monthly meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 7 p.m. in the FOP Hall, 1336 Spring Garden Street. Food and refreshments will be served. District 3 will also be holding their meeting.

President’s Message
March celebrated our 49th year as a Custodes Pacis Lodge, #2085, in the Order Son’s of Italy in America. As we prepare for our 50th anniversary, I am asking members to send me their stories about the lodge, and share any photographs and mementos that you may have. Also, stop by a meeting if you have not been to one in a while.

I have a goal to celebrate our 50th anniversary in a grand fashion and hope to set plans for a banquet in 2009.

As a way of showing our thanks to those members who started our organization in 1959, the executive board recently voted to waive the dues for all Charter Members. Although their numbers are now few, these members took the steps to create our unique organization of Italian-American Police, Fire, Sheriff and Law Enforcement Professionals.

I look forward to receiving your stories and I am interested in any ideas that you may have to celebrate our 50th anniversary. Thank you.

November News

Next Meeting – The next monthly meeting will be held on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 7 p.m. in the FOP Hall, 1336 Spring Garden Street. Food and refreshments will be served. Following our meeting District 3 will hold their bi-monthly meeting. Hope to see you there!

Membership Dues Increase – As mentioned in our last two newsletters, a dues increase of $2 per month has been proposed. A motion was made and passed at the September meeting to raise the dues. Discussion on the topic took place at the October Meeting. A vote will take place at the November 5, 2007 meeting. You must be present at this meeting in order to vote. The dues increase is unfortunate, but necessary. Dues have not been raised in over 25 years. In the past, Custodes Pacis has absorbed the costs of all the per capita tax increases; however, we can no longer afford to do this. At the rate of current expenses, less than $1.00 of your monthly dues goes directly to Custodes Pacis. – PLEASE VOTE TO SUPPORT THIS MOTION!

November Lottery Fundraiser – Tickets for the November fundraiser are still available. The proceeds from this event go directly to our scholarship fund so your support is essential! If you are interested in buying tickets or if have requested tickets and have not received them please contact Pete Lavini to purchase tickets. If each member purchased just one ticket we would have a very successful fundraiser. Your support is appreciated!

If you can contribute to a Basket of Cheer or obtain a gift certificate donation from one of the businesses you support that would be appreciated.

Please mail it to the Lodge’s address no later than November30. Chairperson Joe Spera is looking for members to volunteer and work for the party. If you want to be a part of this committee, contact Joe. Even if you do not want to be on the committee, we can always use an extra pair of hands – a cook, a truck and driver, etc. This is one of our most successful events – let’s keep it that way. Cakes and cookies are appreciated on the day of the party. You may also send your information via our website.

Thank God for Italians
A Greek and Italian were sitting in a Starbuck’s one day discussing who had the superior culture.
Over triple lattes the Greek guy says, “Well, we have the Parthenon.”
Arching his eyebrows, the Italian replies, “We have the Coliseum.” The Greek retorts, “We Greeks gave birth to advanced mathematics”
The Italian, nodding agreement, says, “But we built the Roman Empire.”
And so on and so on until the Greek comes up with what he thinks will end the discussion. With a flourish of finality he says, “We invented sex!”
The Italian replies, “That is true, but it was the Italians who introduced it to women.”

Group Trip to Italy
Brother Ray Saggese is looking for members who may be interested in a group trip to Italy. He is currently looking at several tours for a possible trip in 2008. If you are interested please send the lodge an email via this website.
